If your organization is interested in a great fundraising idea, may I suggest the family style cookbook. Recipe books that are filled with the finest recipes from the best cooks in your club or community are always popular. Some folks enjoy simply collecting them because of the history they contain. Each recipe has the contributor's name associated with it. As time passes and many of the contributors have passed on to "the big kitchen in the sky," people will still remember them as they thumb through the colorful pages looking for a recipe. "I remember old Mrs. Kincaid! She would always have a cookie or piece of pie for us when we were kids playing in her yard."

Other individuals, such as my wife, have dozens of them for another purpose. She is never satisfied with creating the same dish twice. The many personalized cookbooks provide her with an almost limitless supply of recipes, and I am personally glad she has them. Mmmmm, mmmmm!

Why Is That Important?

It is important that the fundraising product has value. Human beings are hard-wired to be generous and helpful, but they aren't that way to a fault. If there were two fundraising booths next to each other, and one was selling candy bars for three dollars and the other was selling a professional looking personalized cookbook for ten dollars, who do you think would have the most customers lining up? Yes, the cookbook booth. People can see that the cookbook has lasting value, where the candy bar will give them a sugar buzz for an hour or two and then be gone.

Giving people the chance to give for a good cause while getting something in return will increase their eagerness to donate to your cause. It has been proven over and over again.

How To Create A Family Style Cookbook

The process isn't complicated. You set up a committee that decides when/where/who, etc. Next you collect recipes. Surprisingly enough, cooks are usually very willing to give their best recipes to you. Some of them might have been family secret recipes for years, but they do not hesitate to provide them for a good fundraising cause. Designing the cookbook is fairly simple if the publisher you are dealing with has the right on-line tools and options. If they require that you use one of a handful of templates, you ought to move along to another publisher. Some organizations will sell advertising in the cookbook. It isn't mandatory, but it sure helps raise money. Businesses understand that the inexpensive ad in the cookbook is a long-term investment. People will be seeing those ads for many years. Last, you sell the cookbooks. Street fairs, county fairs, and other public attractions are prime spots. Local businesses will often let you put up a poster in their store and sell them there. Church activities and school functions are another great place to market them. Your imagination is the only limit.

Get Started

Find a reputable cookbook publisher. Choose one with on-line tools, and it is best if you can locate one that has a guarantee. Yes, some publishers will guarantee your fundraiser. You can't beat that! With the right cookbook publisher, the process is easy and straightforward. Time is wasting! What are you waiting for?
